An open call for those who believe in unlikely, unwieldy, inadvisable and impossible projects.
Citizens For Bridge Justice, created under the parent organization of SWITCH (Society Where Improbable Things Can Happen), is seeking volunteers for a collaborative public art project. For nearly 80 years the Bay Area has been served by two great works of transportation infrastructure: the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. We believe that the Golden Gate Bridge unfairly receives all of the international attention and admiration based solely on its bold color while the Bay Bridge, with three times the daily passengers, is hardly known outside of the region. Why should the Golden Gate Bridge get all of the recognition, while performing a fraction of the service? Citizens for Bridge Justice endeavors to rectify this deep inequality by proposing, through the political process, that the color of the two bridges be SWITCHED. This is a punitive proposal, one that necessarily takes the color from one, and gives it to the other. There can only be one #1, and Citizens for Bridge Justice believes the Bay Bridge rightfully deserves the spotlight. Please join us in advocating for what is right.
Goal: to create a regional dialog challenging the unassailable importance of monument, color, and form in our built environment
Eligibility: misguided enthusiasm, utter disregard for practicality
